Fire-resistant coating systems for steel are available as water-based and solvent-based products for indoor and outdoor use on exposed and hollow, corrosion-resistant and/or galvanized sections. 

Intumescent paint works as follows: when the temperature rises, the paint’s structure—under the action of catalysts such as phosphoric acid—expands and forms a carbon foam. This foam slows the transfer of heat, as specified for each fire resistance class.
